SOFBTALL FAQ

Q1: Are tryouts mandatory?

A1: No- all girls will be drafted to a team. If they are unable to attend tryouts, they will be a hat pick.

Q2: What should I bring to tryouts?

A2: Helmet, bat, face mask for fielding, and a glove

Q3: When and how will I be notified about my child's team?

A3: Team assignment is done on the night of the Draft, which is typically 1 or 2 days after tryouts. Parent will get a Team Sideline notification that their child has been added to a team. Shortly after that the Head Coach will reach out to parents via Group Me messenger app.

Q4: When does practice start?

A4: Practice begins the week after tryouts and draft. Coaches are typically given 2 days a week to practice (Tuesday, Thursday or Friday)

Q5: When is the game schedule released?

A5: Game schedules are released 1 to 2 weeks prior to games starting. The schedule will appear in Team Sideline app. Games will start at 6:00pm or 7:20pm

Q6: When are league games played and how many games per season?

A6: Fall- 8 games (Tuesday, Thursday or Friday) Spring- 12 games (Tuesday, Thursday or Friday)

Q7: Do we allow players to age up or age down? How does that work?

A7: Player can move up an age group but has to be mentioned at check in at tryouts. Player must attend tryouts and be evaluated by coaches in that division and softball director. Depending on open spots in that division and age of child, the softball director will decide if child can move up.  We do not allow players to move down.

     - Your child is placed in an age division based on the age of the child on January 1. For example: Fall enrollment shows your 8-year-old is in 10U. If your child turns 9 before January 1 of the following year than they must play in 10U.

Q8: I need to play with another player due to carpool reasons otherwise he/she cannot play. Can I play with a friend?

Q8: The ONLY roster exceptions we make are for siblings who live in the same household. Siblings will be placed on the same team assuming they both play in the same division. WE DO NOT ALLOW ROSTER EXCEPTIONS FOR CARPOOL OR ANY OTHER REASON. We do allow you to make these requests during the registration process, but they are only requests and are not guaranteed. We will provide the player requests to the coaches at the draft and hopefully they will abide by the request. There will be NO REFUNDS if you don't get on the same team. To guarantee that you and another child play together, one parent can head coach and the other can be their named assistant coach pick.

Q9: What does EMCSA Softball offer?

A9: We offer 5 age divisions- 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14UMIX.

Q10: What are All-Stars?

A10: At the end of the season, each coach will nominate 12 girls from their division that they feel are worthy of an all-star team. The girls with 2 or more nominations are notified via email from league director and are required to attend an all-star tryout. The All-Star coach will select from the girls who tried out to make an All-Star team that will participate in tournaments over the summer from May to July and represent EMCSA Softball.

Q11: Who is the All-Star Coach?

A11: The All-Star coach is the 1st place coach at the end of the Spring Softball Season for each division. The league director and softball commissioners all have to agree on this coach at the end of the season.

Q12: When are All-Star teams announced?

A12: They are announced at the end of softball closing ceremonies.
